Abergavenny, Monmouthshire

A market town, with mountains over the rooftops

Five minutes' walk from Abergavenny station, ten from the town centre, with the Brecon Beacons National Park beginning above the town.

Getting your bearings

Leave the cars parked

Fairlea Grange sits at the top of Belmont Road, with off-road parking for about six cars. Once you've arrived, most of the week happens on foot.

The station is five minutes' walk, on main lines toward Hereford and Manchester one way and Newport, Bristol, London and Cardiff the other, so part of the party can come by train. The town centre, its pubs and its market are ten minutes in the other direction.

Guests walk to Castle Meadows along the River Usk, climb the Sugar Loaf or the Blorenge straight from town, and follow the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal towpath for as long as legs allow.

Float in the Forest - Lydney, Gloucestershire

An activities & days out.

What is floatation? Imagine relaxing in a giant bathtub that you can sleep in with peace of mind. Firstly, the water is only approximately 25cm deep. Secondly, it is saturated with Epsom salt, and heated to skin temperature. This is where the magic begins. Your body floats like a cork, a bit like in the Dead Sea. You are so buoyant that you can totally relax all your muscles, and let go of tensions. You will float naturally and effortlessly, and the support of the water around your body gives a sense of weightlessness. All the work the mind and body usually has to do just to resist gravity becomes unnecessary, and you are able to let go and relax into a blissful state.

5.3 miles away

White Castle Vineyard - Monmouthshire

A food & drink.

Robb and Nicola's journey into viticulture began in 1993 when they purchased a 12-acre smallholding and transformed the old milking parlour into their cherished home. Nestled in the idyllic countryside, this setting became the perfect place for Nicola's dream of owning a vineyard to blossom. By 2008, Nicola's aspirations started taking shape when they acquired a south-facing field. Filled with excitement, they performed soil tests, ordered vines, and began planting. In May 2009, the first 4,000 vines were planted, marking the birth of White Castle Vineyard. Ten years later, in May 2019, to celebrate a decade since the first planting, they expanded the vineyard by planting an additional 2,000 vines. Among these were Cabernet Franc, the first of its kind in Wales. Today, White Castle Vineyard boasts 13,500 vines. In 2024, the estate reached another milestone with the construction of Y Gwindy, their very own winery, further solidifying their legacy in Welsh winemaking.

Life Changing Activities - Herefordshire

An activities & days out.

If you want to go climbing, abseiling, gorge walking, survival training, canoeing, caving or experience high ropes, the team at Life Changing Activities can provide you with an adventurous experience you won't be forgetting in a hurry! We organise outdoor activities such as climbing, abseiling, and canoeing in Gloucestershire, the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons (Bannau Bryncheiniog). Or for something different you could go gorge walking in Monmouthshire and Powys, survival training in Gloucestershire or raft building in the Forest of Dean. We also provide Hill and Mountain guided walks or skills in Worcestershire and Herefordshire. But we are more than just outdoor activities. It's about being able to just be in the activity during our outdoor activities and helping people have an enjoyable, memorable experience. Our outdoor activities can be tailored to suit any group, any age, and any ability. Whether you are searching for corporate outdoor activities for your company, something exciting for a group of friends to do, an outdoor activity that all the family could enjoy, or just want something to suit a Hen Party or Stag Party, then we can provide an outdoor pursuit tailored to you. If outdoor activities seem a bit too strenuous then we can organise a Team Challenge or a Survival Challenge which are competitive fun sessions that anyone can do, no matter what age or ability. Outdoor activities such as climbing, abseiling and gorge walking need you to be reasonably mobile, but canoeing, survival training, raft building, and Team Challenge are outdoor activities that can be done by anyone of any age. We can also provide outdoor multi- activity days to suit your party, so if you want to have a day of climbing and survival training or a morning of abseiling and an afternoon of gorge walking then we can arrange an outdoor activity session just for you. Have a look at all the outdoor activities on our web site and do feel free to ask if you have any queries. If you already know which outdoor activity that you want for your group then just click on the links above for more details. Don't forget we can mix and match any of these activities to give you and your party the type of adventure that you want.
