Why Us

Real people, real houses, real help — a local agency in the heart of the Wye Valley.

What Makes Us Different

We Know Every House

We've walked every room, met every owner, and tested every hot tub. When we recommend a house, we know exactly what you're getting - and so will you.

We Listen First

If the house you want is booked - we'll have another nearby. We ask about your group. How many generations? Any accessibility needs? Dogs coming along? We match the house to you, not the other way around.

We know the Region

We're not spread thinly across the country. The Wye Valley and Forest of Dean is our patch, and we know it better than anyone. Every pub, every walk, every hidden gem.

We Respond

Early in the morning till late in the evening, 7 days a week. A real person who knows your booking, your house, and your area. Before, during, and after your stay. No ai's or bots....

Since 2011

Our Story

Big House Holiday Lets, Monmouth

Starting in 2011 with one house in Symonds Yat, Big House Holiday Lets has grown to offer a local agency service to owners of large self-catering holiday homes in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.

We have a number of well-kept characterful holiday lets big enough to sleep 18 to 50 people per group booking. Each has their own set of positive features and we will happily match you up with the right house.

None of our houses are owned by a chain. They are independent and still retain their charm and unique features. There are many similarities between them to ensure that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable from start to finish. If the one you want is not available we can usually offer another nearby.

Pick the one that suits you: a village house, a town house, a farmhouse, a riverside house, a converted coaching inn, a converted hotel, a house on a hilltop — all perfect for large self-catering holiday group accommodation.

We believe our personal service in finding you the right holiday home makes us different from other online booking sites. With our local knowledge we can listen to your needs and help you find places to visit, tell you where the local shop is, or any other detail that bigger sites simply don't know.

There's seven of us in the Team. We know every one of our large holiday cottages intimately and we know the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley too.

We live here. We drink in the pubs, eat in the restaurants, canoe the rivers, bike the forest trails, walk the paths, drive the roads, shop in the shops.

We know the specialist food providers, the micro brewers, the cider makers, the vineyards, the caterers. We're active members of the Tourism Association and if you want something we generally know who will provide it for you.

We make group accommodation holidays special, and easy for you, but only if you want to spend time in the glorious Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.

So there — a no brainer. Tell your family and friends you've found a destination, a large self-catering holiday house and a company that's going to take care of you from the minute you book till the minute you leave. They can relax, we can relax, but most importantly of all……YOU can relax.

We all had a fantastic weekend, chilling, drinking and eating in this beautiful house. The hot tub was fab! We would strongly recommend canoeing for a good day out!

Super house with everything we could possibly need. We had a very comfortable stay. We had beautiful weather and the garden with BBQ was perfect for al fresco dining. So much to do in this area - we would love to visit again. Many thanks!

Symonds Yat is nearby. Good for kayaking or just walking up to Yat rock and the most spectacular views. Lovely river walks from the house. The place was just amazing. We brought instruments and used the party room to play. Kids had a whale of a time. Fascinating to look at all the signed pictures and rock memorabilia around the house. Hot tub and the sunny patio were great for chilling and chatting. Great place for a large family gathering.

A lovely setting for a big family get together. Holly Tree House satisfied all our needs and more. Thank you.

Our group did not leave the property during our stay. High Cloud Farm was almost perfect for our large group of friends; there was plenty of space for cooking, eating, relaxing, and playing games. The main house and barn were well-maintained, and the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and well-presented. The outside spaces were fantastic: we enjoyed walking around the property's many beautiful acres, as well as having fun in the pool and hot tub. The amount of outside seating (at the picnic tables) was excellent; there aren't many properties we've been to that have had enough decent space for everyone to sit together.

Very comfortable for a large party with children. Arrangement of the rooms well thought through allowing families to be close to each other. Very well-equipped kitchen. Good selection of games.

We stayed close to the property as it was such a relaxing area. We were lucky to have great weather so we were able to make the most of the lawn and patio area. A few of our party also visited the Royal Lodge bar for food and drinks which was a lovely experience. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep.

The space to be all together all 24 of us and plenty of room to be able to be in smaller groups if needed

We had an excellent time, Symonds Yat Lodge was perfect for our friends Christmas get together. Graham was a brilliant host. The rooms were great and having the bar open to use was an extra special touch. We will absolutely be rebooking next year.

The whole house is a beautiful experience, nicely kept, big bedrooms with ensuites, big space on ground floor, lots of fridges and well furnished and stocked Kitchen with lots of kitchen ware and glasses. We cooked over 2 days with absolutely no problems for a family group of 46 mixed adults and children from 4yrs to 61years all found themselves enjoying. The grounds are huge we played outside, BBQ is big we had 3 stands all men enjoyed. The views are amazing with the river meandering down the valley. You can go down for walks or cycling along the river. Alison and Kim were great in managing our booking and queries.

Great layout of the property and so much space for everyone! Games room absolutely made it - would definitely recommend for a family get together!

Such a quirky large house with rooms all over the place so even as a group you can find space on your own or be together. Well equipped for large groups. Very homely feel to it all.Games room and hot tub great extras. Heating excellent (though scarcely needed). So close to town...only 7 minute walk!. Quiet, safe area. Really nice to be met by Peter in person and shown round. We all loved it for our week, age range of 13 to 77! Only real improvement would be the wifi signal...to more parts of the house. Some editing/updating of handbook might be helpful...

Our family spent a wonderful few days together in Brookside over Christmas and the house proved a perfect venue for a special festive getaway. The kitchen was really well equipped, which took a lot of the stress out of preparing Christmas dinner - enjoyed by 16 of us sat around the main dining table with room to spare. The bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of space, as were the two main living areas, with log fires helping to keep them warm and cosy. The local area provided some great dog-walking opportunities, with riverside and forest walks within a few minutes of the front door, whilst the games room proved very popular with the younger members of the family in particular. The communication from BHHL and the housekeeper were excellent throughout, and the welcome pack really helped us feel at home. All in all, it was a wonderful Christmas break in a fabulous venue.

Ye Old Ferrie Inn was lovely for a riverside walk and then lunch. The butterfly zoo was great fun; Raglan castle was interesting for those who like history. The house was lovely - everything we had hoped for. It allowed us to have a comfortable family get together and all be together, without feeling cramped

11 ladies of our party went on an afternoon trip to Brockmoorhead Alpaca walking, Crafting and a afternoon tea which they all enjoyed doing. We enjoyed the whole experience of staying in a large property with family and freinds for a 60th & 65th birthday celebration, everything was catered for in the property for cooking and drinking, the bar was a great touch because we hired a cocktail mixologist so he had the perfect place to do his stuff. Nothing wrong with the kitchen at all, a hired Chef came in and cooked a perfect 4 course meal for us all. The views were stunning the outside area was perfect with seating areas. 10 out of 10

We did a lovely walk along the river but otherwise occupied ourselves in the house. We thought the house was brilliantly set up for a big group. There wasn't anything we needed that we couldn't find and it was spotlessly clean. Nothing to improve that we could think of and we hope to come back again - thanks!

Recommends Clearwell Caves. It was the perfect venue for a family gathering. Loads of space, and a beautiful location. Using the kitchen worked out well because it is so spacious. However, it was very hot in the hotel, the central heating could have been lower, so we had no need to use the woodburners, even in February.

Excellent house with lovely decor and space for large group. Some leaks which were a bit annoying and the lights by the hot tub were on all night which shone into one of the bedrooms. But otherwise perfect!

There are two local pubs - one on this side of the river and one on the other side. Both within walking distance. We went to the one on the other side of the river over the hanging bridge and found it very friendly, excellent service with great chips. Symonds Yat - wonderful to walk to and the views are incredible of the river. We loved our time at Holly Tree House and will definitely plan to return if we have the right number of people. It was warm, the rooms and the facilities were all excellent and the location was perfect. Oli who greeted me and ran through everything I needed to know was really helpful and could be contacted if I had any further questions. We were all really happy with our stay.

Recommends Cripple Creek. The stay was wonderful. Fully packed kitchens which enabled us to prepare xmas dinner for 26 of us. The house keeper was very accommodating and checked in with us and very helpful after when we thought a guest had left behind an item.

Recommends The Old Nags Head - We went here for a few drinks, the staff were lovely. The pub had pool and darts which the family loved. A very warm, welcoming pub. No, other than visit the town, as this was beautiful. The house was lovely, one of the best houses we have stayed in as a family. It has everything you could possibly need for young children to adults, it really did cater for all. The rooms were lovely, spacious and clean. The house was warm all the time, which is a big plus in the winter! A really beautiful home. A big thank you to Mike who welcomed us and checked in with us via text during our stay, he made us feel very welcomed. Only one improvement would be that the internet did not reach the whole house

Stayed here for a long weekend with my family. We had the best time! Mike the manager was a wonderful host, very friendly, informative, knowledgable of the area, and knew the house inside out. He gave us a full tour so we knew what's what when we arrived. The house itself was very impressive, very grand with large rooms and open spaces. The bedrooms were all good sizes and a couple allowed for families with young children to all stay in. The kitchen was a good size and there was plenty of space to dine both inside and out. The added facilities of a games room, hot tub and river swimming were great perks as was the huge grounds with plenty of room for kids to run around and play games. I would highly recommend this house - perfect for a large group.

Canoeing in the Wye. Visit Symonds Yat. Country walks. Coffee and shopping in Monmouth. Iconic house and music venue. Delightful and helpful owners. So much to do at the house, there's no need to venture far! EV charging would be a helpful addition
