The area

Symonds Yat, the heart of the Wye Valley

One of the UK's best-kept holiday secrets, quietly tucked along the border of England and Wales.

From the gate

No car required

Guests regularly report whole weekends without the car: everything below starts on foot.

  1. The river ferry and circular walks

A romantic hand-rope ferry crosses the river a short walk away, opening up beautiful circular walks along both banks.

  2. Up to Symonds Yat Rock

The climb to the famous viewpoint starts at the back of the house. It is a proper hill, and the view down the gorge is worth every step.

  3. Canoes and paddleboards

Canoe and paddleboard hire is a couple of minutes from the door; guests paddle nine-mile stretches of the Wye and amble back to the house to freshen up.

  4. Biblins rope bridge

A level riverside walk leads to the rope bridge at Biblins and back along the far bank, a favourite loop in the guest book.

  5. Pubs on the doorstep

Three pubs and two restaurants sit within a very short walk, and when the day visitors leave, the village quietens to the sound of the river.

Float in the Forest - Lydney, Gloucestershire

An activities & days out.

What is floatation? Imagine relaxing in a giant bathtub that you can sleep in with peace of mind. Firstly, the water is only approximately 25cm deep. Secondly, it is saturated with Epsom salt, and heated to skin temperature. This is where the magic begins. Your body floats like a cork, a bit like in the Dead Sea. You are so buoyant that you can totally relax all your muscles, and let go of tensions. You will float naturally and effortlessly, and the support of the water around your body gives a sense of weightlessness. All the work the mind and body usually has to do just to resist gravity becomes unnecessary, and you are able to let go and relax into a blissful state.

Monmouth Gin Company - Monmouthshire

Monmouth Gin Company - Monmouthshire

A food & drink.

he origins of Monmouth Gin come from a birthday present gin tasting evening. The tasting experience changed our view of gin to a more interesting drink than previously thought. Our appetite was further whetted by a make your own gin kit given as a present the following Christmas Eventually, we came up with what we thought was a passable recipe and we discussed what we should do next. We conducted some research and found a gin company to collaborate with so that we could learn more and even lead us to create our own gin to share with the world. After initial meetings with the Gower Gin Company they agreed to help fill in the blanks in our knowledge of the process and bureaucracy associated with the expansion of our idea into what would become the Monmouth Gin Company. Initially we rented a space on the Treowen Estate near Monmouth before moving to a unit at the business park in the town where the gin continues to be produced and bottled, ready for delivery. Tasting experience of three gins with a gin and tonic of your choice. Learn about the history of gin and how our gin is made. Available to book daily Monday - Saturday 9am - 11am and 1pm - 5pm. These can be booked online, or if you prefer, please call us on 01234 567 890

Looking for a caterer to make your event or retreat extra special? Look no further! My name is Caroline and I run Country Made. I provide coverage in Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, parts of Gloucestershire, and beyond by request. In fact, I've cooked for events and retreats as far away as Devon, Suffolk, and Sussex. So I have always been interested in cooking and was lucky enough to do a Cordon Bleu cookery course at the London school when I was 17. I was always a good cook and friends would ask me to cook for their celebrations. This developed into working as a school cook at my son's school for 5 years. Working there gave me the confidence to cook delicious nutritious food for larger numbers. When my youngest son left I had built up a good base of catering functions for parents of the school and I decided to start Country Made Catering. Over the 7 years I have been running my business I have had the privilege of being part of many wonderful happy events as well as sadder occasions, which have been equally fulfilling. I have a great team I can call on when I need help and together we have catered and served at events from a dinner party for 10 to weddings for over a 100. , if you're looking for delicious food and exceptional service, I'm your caterer!
