Built to hold a crowd
The hardest part of a big family weekend is finding a house that can actually hold it. Wye Rapids House sleeps thirty, with travel cots and high chairs for the smallest guests, and it was a hotel once, so the building already knows how to take a crowd.
Guest after guest books it for the same reason: a get-together where nobody draws the short straw on rooms. Most bedrooms have a bathroom of their own, the dining room seats the whole party at once, and the games rooms absorb the children while dinner is cooked.
One party celebrated a 60th and a 65th together and hired in a chef and a cocktail mixologist; another ran from two years old to ninety. The house didn't blink either time.
The bar was a great touch because we hired a cocktail mixologist so he had the perfect place to do his stuff.

Big birthdays
Sixtieths, sixty-fifths and eightieths have all been celebrated here, with chefs and even a cocktail mixologist hired in by the party when the occasion called for it.

Three and four generations at once: toddlers in travel cots, grandparents in the ground floor bedrooms, and everyone at one table for breakfast.

Friends' weekends
Walking parties and paddling parties: canoes and the climb to Yat Rock in the morning, the games rooms and the bar at night.

The house takes bookings right through the festive season: the whole family under one roof, with the woods and the river to walk off lunch.
