THE WYE VALLEY

Where the Wye cuts through the gorge

Symonds Yat sits in the heart of the Wye Valley, on the edge of the spectacular Royal Forest of Dean.

SYMONDS YAT EAST

The village below the Rock

Within a very short walk there are three excellent pubs, 2 restaurants, and best of all a romantic river ferry for beautiful circular walks.

Outdoors you can hike, canoe, swim, climb, cave and walk, and when the visitors go home of an evening you have the village to yourselves.

The full range of our holiday cottages for hire covers the same area as the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Tourism Association. With so much to see and do in this area it makes a great spot for holidays, whether you choose to go out and about, or just stay in the cottage and make use of the wonderful facilities whilst basking in stunning scenery.

The Wye Valley is one of the UK's best-kept holiday secrets, quietly tucked along the border of England and Wales, just as breathtaking as the Lake District or Cotswolds but far less crowded.

Wythall Estate Vineyard Herefordshire

Wythall Estate Vineyard Herefordshire

A food & drink.

The vineyard at Wythall Estate in Herefordshire, continues to flourish by being in one of the finest agricultural growing areas in England. Wythall Manor has been our family home since it was built in 1520. It has never been sold. This unique history gives us a deep family connection to the Estate and an unrivalled passion to create quality produce from it. Since the first release in 2014 both the still wines and sparkling wines have been extremely well received by customers, wine judges and expert enthusiasts. Our single vineyard approach means 100% of the grapes come from the Wythall vineyards. We practice a low-intervention approach, which, when combined with the rich Herefordshire soil, means that we consistently grow grapes of the finest quality to ensure the production of superb, complex English wines that demonstrate the character and qualities of the local terroir.

Monmouth Gin Company - Monmouthshire

4.5 miles away

Monmouth Gin Company - Monmouthshire

A food & drink.

he origins of Monmouth Gin come from a birthday present gin tasting evening. The tasting experience changed our view of gin to a more interesting drink than previously thought. Our appetite was further whetted by a make your own gin kit given as a present the following Christmas Eventually, we came up with what we thought was a passable recipe and we discussed what we should do next. We conducted some research and found a gin company to collaborate with so that we could learn more and even lead us to create our own gin to share with the world. After initial meetings with the Gower Gin Company they agreed to help fill in the blanks in our knowledge of the process and bureaucracy associated with the expansion of our idea into what would become the Monmouth Gin Company. Initially we rented a space on the Treowen Estate near Monmouth before moving to a unit at the business park in the town where the gin continues to be produced and bottled, ready for delivery. Tasting experience of three gins with a gin and tonic of your choice. Learn about the history of gin and how our gin is made. Available to book daily Monday - Saturday 9am - 11am and 1pm - 5pm. These can be booked online, or if you prefer, please call us on 01234 567 890

White Castle Vineyard - Monmouthshire

11.3 miles away

White Castle Vineyard - Monmouthshire

A food & drink.

Robb and Nicola's journey into viticulture began in 1993 when they purchased a 12-acre smallholding and transformed the old milking parlour into their cherished home. Nestled in the idyllic countryside, this setting became the perfect place for Nicola's dream of owning a vineyard to blossom. By 2008, Nicola's aspirations started taking shape when they acquired a south-facing field. Filled with excitement, they performed soil tests, ordered vines, and began planting. In May 2009, the first 4,000 vines were planted, marking the birth of White Castle Vineyard. Ten years later, in May 2019, to celebrate a decade since the first planting, they expanded the vineyard by planting an additional 2,000 vines. Among these were Cabernet Franc, the first of its kind in Wales. Today, White Castle Vineyard boasts 13,500 vines. In 2024, the estate reached another milestone with the construction of Y Gwindy, their very own winery, further solidifying their legacy in Welsh winemaking.

Dinedor Cross Farm, Hereford, Herefordshire

A food & drink.

Our farm is situated only 2 miles outside of Hereford city center in the glorious South Hereford countryside. The farm is family run, it has been passed down through three generations, so far! The farm has changed in many ways over the years as technologies have progressed and even the idea of 'farming' has developed. We are beginning to branch out into other ventures, using the farm as a base. We have a variety of rare breed animals here, including Saddleback pigs, Ryeland sheep, Jacob sheep and British Longhorn cattle. We also keep chickens, Rhea, Boer Goats and our lovely donkey named Jack. As a family we really love our farm, the animals and everything it has to offer, and we simply want to share what we have been blessed with.
